Thiago Martins is entering his second season with the New York City Football Club, having joined the Boys in Blue from Yokohama F. Marinos just over a year ago.

Fresh off scoring twice in Wednesday's friendly against St. Louis City – the first brace of his career – the defender says he's ready to shine, armed with the knowledge and experience he's gained since his debut season with the Bronx blues.

"I'm really happy to have scored two goals," he said. “It was the first time in my whole life!

“We work a lot to help the attack with free kicks or corners. It's a really good opportunity for us to help the team score goals.

“He is so important to any centre-back. I have the opportunity when I come up for a free kick or a corner... and I have to be careful every time, and attack the ball, attack the space, when we work in training every week, and help my team score .

“I'm working for it. I saw Callens do it last year. I know it's important for me and also for the group.

“This second year, I now understand the league, I can improve my style, how to play and of course I feel so comfortable. When I improve my style of football, I can help my team 100%".
