New York City FC has officially announced the transfer of forward Mounsef Bakrar to Croatian club GNK Dinamo Zagreb. The move marks the end of the Algerian striker’s time in MLS, as he returns to Europe for the next chapter of his career.

Bakrar joined NYCFC during the summer transfer window of 2023 and made a total of 70 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals. Among his most memorable moments in blue was the winning goal in the Hudson River Derby, a highlight in the club’s recent rivalry history.

Sporting Director David Lee commented on the transfer:

“We want to thank Mounsef for everything he brought to NYCFC. His energy, work rate, and dedication to the team were clear from day one. We believe that this move back to Europe is the right step for everyone involved, and we wish him great success in his future with Dinamo Zagreb.”
