Three NYCFC Players Named to Preliminary 2025 Gold Cup Rosters

With the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup fast approaching, New York City FC has learned that three of its players are in the running to represent their countries on the international stage.

Each participating nation has released a 60-man preliminary roster, forming the pool from which final 26-player squads will be selected. Among those called up are Matt Freese for the United States, Alonso Martínez for Costa Rica, and Tomás Romero for El Salvador.

These selections underscore the international quality within NYCFC’s roster, though they also present potential challenges. MLS does not pause for the Gold Cup, meaning if any of the three are selected to final squads, they will be unavailable for a significant portion of June.

That said, NYCFC’s June fixture list is relatively light. The team will only host Atlanta United on June 12 and then visit CF Montréal on June 28, minimizing the potential impact of their absences.

All eyes will now be on the final rosters, which are expected to be released soon. Should any of NYCFC’s representatives make the cut, it would be a proud moment for both club and player alike.
