New York City FC has taken a bold and promising step toward its future by officially signing forward Seymour Reid to a First Team Homegrown contract, keeping him with the club through 2029, with an option for 2030. The move accelerates Reid's progression, as he transitions from MLS NEXT Pro to the First Team immediately, occupying an Off-Roster Homegrown slot.

The 17-year-old forward, already familiar to fans for his electric cameos, becomes the 17th Homegrown player in NYCFC history. Reid has made an immediate impression with his pace, confidence, and goal-scoring instinct, tallying seven goals in 11 appearances for NYCFC II this season.

“Signing a Homegrown contract with New York City FC is an incredible feeling,” Reid shared with emotion. “Opportunities like this don’t come around often, and I’m really excited to get started. I’m looking forward to learning from the coaching staff and my teammates every day and continuing to develop my game. I can’t wait to play at home in front of our fans and compete for trophies for years to come.”

Despite his youth, Reid has already made history. He became the youngest player ever to debut for NYCFC’s First Team when he stepped onto the pitch against Columbus Crew on Matchday 5. Earlier this month, he featured in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32, gaining valuable experience at the highest level.

Under MLS roster rules, Reid will remain ineligible for league matches unless called up on a short-term basis, which allows a maximum of six MLS appearances per season. However, he can feature in unlimited First Team matches in other competitions, including the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, and friendlies.

Reid is now eligible for a short-term call-up ahead of NYCFC’s upcoming clash with Houston Dynamo FC at Yankee Stadium, where fans may get another glimpse of the club’s next big star in the making.

This signing not only secures a top prospect for years to come but sends a clear message: New York City FC is investing in its future – and that future looks very bright with Seymour Reid leading the next generation.
