NYCFC Confirms Extended Loan Deal for James Sands With FC St. Pauli Until 2026

New York City FC has officially announced the extension of midfielder James Sands’ loan with FC St. Pauli, keeping him with the German club through June 30, 2026.

The American international joined FC St. Pauli in January and made seven appearances before suffering a leg injury that prematurely ended his season. Despite the setback, St. Pauli secured promotion and will return to the Bundesliga next season, giving Sands an exciting new stage to showcase his talents once he recovers.

A cornerstone for NYCFC, Sands holds the distinction of being the first Homegrown player to reach 100 MLS appearances for the club—a milestone he achieved in 2024. That same season, he was named Defensive MVP, underscoring his consistent impact and leadership in the midfield.

While NYCFC will miss his presence, the club expressed full support for Sands as he continues his career in Europe. In a statement, the club wished him continued success, noting his contribution both on and off the field.

James Sands’ extended loan marks another chapter in his growing international journey, and fans will no doubt be watching closely as he prepares for Bundesliga action in the 2025–2026 season.
