Donald Trump Reacts to NYCFC’s New Stadium Project in Queens
The construction of New York City FC’s new soccer-specific stadium in Willets Point, Queens, has drawn the attention of a prominent former New Yorker—President Donald J. Trump. During his recent diplomatic visit to the Middle East, Trump made headlines not just for international affairs, but also for a surprising moment involving Major League Soccer.
While touring Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, the President concluded his trip in Abu Dhabi, where he met with a number of high-ranking officials and business leaders. Among them was Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, owner of City Football Group (CFG) and its global network of football clubs, including NYCFC.
During a live Fox News broadcast showing Trump’s meeting with the delegation, cameras captured a remarkable and unexpected moment—Trump seemingly learning for the first time about NYCFC’s $780 million stadium, Etihad Park, set to open in the Valley of Ashes near Citi Field.
The stadium, backed by Abu Dhabi’s wealth through CFG, is poised to become a landmark venue for soccer in New York and the first-ever soccer-specific stadium within the five boroughs. The project has already generated excitement among local fans and MLS supporters nationwide.
