New York City FC secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Club León on Friday night in the Leagues Cup, delivering a complete performance on both ends of the pitch. The win strengthens NYCFC’s position in the tournament and boosts their momentum heading into the next round.
The breakthrough came via Alonso Martínez, who opened the scoring with a composed finish, while Agustín Ojeda doubled the lead to seal the result. On the defensive side, goalkeeper Matt Freese was the standout performer, producing several decisive saves and denying James Rodríguez from the penalty spot in a crucial moment of the match.
Freese’s heroics ensured a clean sheet and highlighted NYCFC’s resilience against a strong Mexican side. With this victory, New York City FC continues to build confidence and assert themselves as serious contenders in the Leagues Cup.
