In Qatar, rainbow armbands have been banned, with teams intending to wear them backing out following FIFA's threat of a yellow card. Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar and so the world's top football body has decided to avoid any kind of problem by threatening Holland, England, Wales, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark: the captains would have been booked at the kick-off whistle if they had worn the rainbow band.

Former England footballer Alex Scott, now a World Cup commentator for the BBC, appeared live wearing the symbol of civil rights armband on her braboot.
