Pascal Jansen is embracing the challenge as New York City FC prepare for one of the most intense stretches of the season — a jam-packed May schedule that will test the depth and resilience of his squad.

The Club is set to play seven MLS matches in addition to a U.S. Open Cup fixture against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, making this month a pivotal period in NYCFC’s campaign.

“It’s an exciting month ahead, and this is what you live for as a player—getting the chance to play as many games as possible,” Jansen said in a recent press briefing.

With fixtures coming in rapid succession, squad rotation is naturally on the radar. However, Jansen is careful not to get ahead of himself.

“Rotating players is always in the back of my mind, but we take it one game at a time,” he explained.
“First, it’s Cincinnati. Once that’s done, we move on to the next one. That’s the rhythm we’ll keep, especially during a month like this.”

The Dutch manager’s step-by-step philosophy aims to maintain focus and prevent mental fatigue — a critical factor with such a congested calendar. The ability to balance performance and recovery will be key, not just for results, but also to manage the long-term fitness of the squad.

As NYCFC continues to climb the MLS standings and pursue success in multiple competitions, May could prove to be a defining month — and Jansen is ready to lead with composure and clarity.
