Andrea Pirlo’s playing career came to a close at the San Siro on Monday. The 39-year old formally announced he is retiring from football after playing his last game for New York City FC in November.

After his last official game, Pirlo decided to organize a testimonial with his former teammates and trainers at the home of his old clubs AC Milan and Inter.

The two sides, one in white the other in blue, were full of stars like Gianluigi Buffon, Ronaldo, Del Piero, Baggio, Totti, Nesta, and Materazzi among other grates. There was Frank Lampard too: the Englishman was the only teammate of Pirlo's at NYC FC participant at his testimonial.

But the big names were also off the pitch. On the benches of the two teams were present great coaches such as the Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri and Chelsea Antonio Conte. Two other coaches present there were Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Donadoni. The latter was a player of the MLS franchise NY MetroStars.

The game ended with a 14-goal thriller drawing 7-7. Pato (14, 42), Vieri (33), Inzaghi (75, 79, 84), and Matri (77) scored for the White Stars. While Shevchenko (1), Quagliarella (6), Cassano (30), Cafu (35) Seedorf (45), Brocchi (47), and Toni (71) found the net for the Blue Stars.

Pirlo received a standing ovation as he left the pitch at the end of the game to be replaced by his son Niccolò.
