Ronny Deila has brought in ex-Hoops midfielder Efrain Juarez at New York City.

Scotland international winger Gary Mackay-Steven, who was signed by the Norwegian for the Parkhead side during his two-year reign from 2014/16, is also at the MLS outfit.

Juarez, who left the Hoops in 2012, has joined as assistant coach after working with Deila at Valerenga.

Announcing the Mexican’s arrival, the ex-Celtic gaffer told the club’s website: “I’m really happy to welcome Efraín into our staff and it’s great to be reunited after working with him in Norway.

“He knows what it takes to be a professional player at the highest level and he will bring great experience and energy as he works closely with our players to help them develop every day.

“I’m excited for him to join us and I’m confident he’ll make an immediate impact.”

Juárez, who made only 21 appearances for the club after being signed by Neil Lennon, added: “The opportunity to be reunited with Ronny was an easy decision for me and I am very excited to join NYCFC.

“I am so grateful to everyone here, especially to Ronny and sporting director David Lee.”

Among the former Parkhead stars now performing in the US is winger Lewis Morgan, who, of course, joined David Beckham’s Inter Miami in January.
