New York City FC today announced its schedule for the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, a 14-match competition running from February through May that will lead into a new era for Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Club. In July 2027, MLS will begin its new summer-to-spring calendar, and New York City FC will begin play at Etihad Park.
The Boys in Blue will open the Sprint Season with two road matches, facing Nashville SC on Saturday, February 20 at 3pm ET, followed by FC Cincinnati on Saturday, February 27 at 3pm ET. The Club will then host Inter Miami CF on Wednesday, March 3 at 7pm ET in its final Home Opener at Yankee Stadium, followed by the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, March 6 at 3pm ET at Yankee Stadium.
New York City FC's final scheduled match at Yankee Stadium will be Decision Day and this season's Hudson River Derby against Red Bull New York on Saturday, May 8 at 5pm ET. The match will serve as New York City FC’s farewell to Yankee Stadium where the Club has played its home matches for the past 12 MLS Regular Seasons ahead of its move to Etihad Park.
Each MLS club will play 14 regular season matches against its conference opponents, with seven home and seven away fixtures. The top eight teams in each conference will advance to the Audi 2027 MLS Cup Playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the 2027 MLS Cup presented by Audi. The Sprint Season will crown an MLS Cup champion and determine qualification for the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and Leagues Cup.
“There’s a tremendous amount at stake in the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, and we’re excited for a fast-paced competition where every match will carry significant weight,” said Brad Sims, New York City FC CEO. “This season will also mark a defining transition for Major League Soccer and our Club. As the League prepares to adopt a new calendar and usher in a new era, we’ll bring one chapter of our history to a close and begin another at Etihad Park. Closing our time at Yankee Stadium with a Hudson River Derby makes the finale especially fitting, and we look forward to sharing that moment with our supporters. We’re ready to make the most of this pivotal season and carry its momentum into the future of New York City FC and MLS.”
The 2027-28 MLS season will begin in July 2027 when New York City FC plays its first match at Etihad Park in Willets Point, Queens. The Club’s new home will be a 25,000-seat, fully electric stadium and New York City’s first-ever soccer-specific stadium.
