New York City is completing preparations for the November 1 marathon, with more than 60,000 runners expected to participate.
Crews are marking the course with its familiar blue line and preparing the finish area in Central Park. Alongside those arrangements, the NYPD has outlined an extensive security operation.
Thousands of Officers Will Cover the Route
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said authorities had spent months coordinating with New York Road Runners and other agencies.
The operation will include thousands of officers, specialized response teams, canine units and aerial monitoring. Tisch said there were no known specific, credible threats against the event at the time of the briefing.
Street Closures Will Affect Travel
Residents and visitors should prepare for restrictions around the route, including bridge closures and traffic delays.
Authorities are encouraging public transportation where possible. Spectators entering designated Central Park viewing areas should also expect bag inspections.
The preparations will reshape travel across the city as runners and spectators gather for marathon weekend.
