Karl-Anthony Towns could offer the Knicks a useful starting point as they search for more consistent offense. His 22 points and 14 rebounds against Orlando provided substantial production, even as New York suffered another defeat.

The question now is whether the Knicks can make his involvement more purposeful during the possessions that matter most.

More Involvement Should Mean Better Opportunities

Giving Towns a larger role does not necessarily mean asking him to shoot every time he touches the ball.

It could mean using him more frequently to initiate an action, draw a second defender or create a favorable matchup before the defense settles. His ability to operate away from the basket gives New York different ways to begin possessions.

Those opportunities should complement Jalen Brunson’s scoring. If opponents concentrate on slowing Brunson, Towns can provide another route into the offense rather than simply waiting for a late pass.

The objective would be to make defensive choices harder, not to establish a competition between the Knicks’ leading players.

New York Must Keep the Entire Lineup Involved

Any adjustment requires movement around the ball. Extra touches for Towns will accomplish less if teammates remain stationary or allow defenders to anticipate the next pass.

Spacing, cutting and screening must give him useful options. The Knicks also need to preserve their defensive positioning when an attempt goes up.

There is no guarantee that a larger role alone would solve the offense. It is, however, a reasonable adjustment to explore while other players search for their rhythm.

Towns is already producing. New York’s opportunity is to turn that production into more reliable collective offense.
