Matt Freese was signed by New York City FC to replace Sean Johnson. City have chosen an experienced player to replace the goalkeeper who wrote part of the club's history. Instead, in his MLS debut Nick Cushing decides to deploy Luis Barraza in the line up. The 26-year-old has always been in the shadow of Sean Johnson thus far and found himself on the court against Nashville. A choice also to reward the professionalism of a boy who has always trained with great dedication.

Barraza very well repaid the trust Cushing showed him by showing off an excellent performance. It's true, in the end he conceded 2 goals, but Barraza played well, also making some important saves. He played almost like a veteran and his excellent performance puts Nick Cushing in trouble. In fact, the coach had declared that there would always be a run-off between Barraza and Freese. The excellent performance of Barraza complicates the situation. At the moment he is in the lead to play as a starter, but goalkeepers are not excluded for the next match.
