New York City FC is heading into the postseason, but before the Boys in Blue take to the Eastern Conference Semifinals they’ll head off to the international break.
Seven players have been called up to international team duty: Maxime Chanot, Tony Rocha, Sean Johnson, Alex Callens, Alexandru Mitriță, Valentin Castellanos, Ronald Matarrita.
Alexander Callens
Callens has received the nod once again to report to the Peruvian National Team. The defender has consistently been relied upon by Peru to represent the nation in soccer tournaments.
He was on the earlier this year when they made their run for the Copa America title, and once again in September. Now he’s going to join the squad as they take Uruguay in a doubleheader on October 11 and 15, before returning for playoffs.
Maxime Chanot
Chanot has been called upon to represent Luxembourg as they take on Portugal in a UEFA European Championship qualifier and Denmark in a friendly.
The Luxembourgian defender represented his country in September as well, and now he will continue to do so as they fight to qualify for the tournament in 2020.
Tony Rocha
Rocha is headed back to Belize for his second call up after making his debut in September against Grenada.
Now he is reuniting with his team as they take on St. Kitts and Nevis on October 10 and 13 as they continue their campaign in the CONCACAF Nations League.
Sean Johnson
Johnson has received the nod from Gregg Berhalter and the US Men’s National team yet again. The goalkeeper has been a go-to backup for Zack Steffen and a trusted option in tournaments and friendlies.
He will be reporting to the team once again as they begin their campaign in the CONCACAF Nations League as they take on Cuba and Canada on October 11 and 15.
Alexandru Mitriță
Mitriță has earned his first call-up since March and will be reporting to the Romanian National team as they take on the Faroe Islands and Norway on October 12 and 15.
The attacker has scored 12 goals in 29 matches this season and will continue to impress while representing his nation.
Valentin Castellanos
Castellanos has earned his first call up to the Argentina U-23 National team after having a stunning season with NYCFC.
The striker will be joining up with the squad for camp and representing his country as they face Mexico in two friendlies on October 9 and 14.
Ronald Matarrita
Matarrita is off to the Costa Rican National team as they also begin their campaign for the CONCACAF Nations League.
They will be going head-to-head with Haiti and Curacao on October 10 and 13. The defender has been a go-to for Costa Rica, and with his performance at NYCFC this season it is clear why.
The Boys in Blue jet off to continue their hunt for international glory, and luckily for City the top seed gives them extra time to bounce back in time for playoffs.
