The New York Knicks suffered more than just a loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder—they may have lost a key piece of their rotation once again. Miles McBride, who had just returned from a lengthy injury layoff, was forced to leave the game early due to a new physical issue.
It was a moment that quickly shifted the tone from optimism to concern, both for the team and for the player.
A cruel twist: McBride exits in his long-awaited comeback
McBride’s return had been highly anticipated. After missing 28 games following surgery for a sports hernia, his presence on the court was expected to provide energy, defense, and depth to a Knicks team preparing for the postseason.
However, that return was cut short in the third quarter. While diving for a loose ball, McBride appeared to suffer discomfort in his groin area. He remained on the floor momentarily before getting up and heading toward the locker room, visibly limited.
He did not return to the game, leaving uncertainty about the severity of the issue.
Head coach Mike Brown admitted after the game that he was still awaiting a full medical evaluation, but emphasized how important McBride’s presence had already been, even in limited minutes.
Knicks depth tested again ahead of the playoffs
This setback comes at a particularly difficult time for New York. With the regular season nearing its conclusion, the Knicks are focused on building momentum and solidifying their rotation for the playoffs.
McBride’s role is crucial in that context. His ability to defend opposing guards and contribute offensively off the bench adds balance to the team. Losing him again—even temporarily—would complicate rotation decisions and increase the workload on other players.
Beyond the tactical impact, there is also the emotional aspect. McBride had worked his way back from a significant injury, only to face another setback in his first game back.
For now, the Knicks await further updates from the medical staff. The hope is that the issue is minor and does not sideline him for long.
But until clarity arrives, one thing is certain: New York’s depth—and resilience—will be tested once again at the most critical point of the season.
