New York City FC grabs first win of the season. This coincides with the Blues' home debut at Yankee Stadium against Inter Miami cf. Christopher McVey's own goal in the first half was decisive.

Head coach Cushing made one change to the team's draw against the Chicago Fire on matchday two, when Santiago Rodríguez replaced Andres Jasson for the first time as a starter since returning to the club as a designated player. The Uruguayan occupied the number 10 position in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Also named on the bench were Alfredo Morales and Tayvon Gray, who missed the trip to Illinois with injuries.

New York City FC took the lead and had several chances to kill the game but to no avail. In the second half, however, the game was played at a slow pace and NYCFC brought home the three points.
