Anton Tinnerholm has announced that he will be leaving New York City FC. The news had been in the air for some time, now the Swede has confirmed it in an interview. Arriving in New York in January 2018, four years later Tinnerholm decides to open another chapter in his life.
Most likely Tinnerholm will return to play in Sweden in Malmo FF especially to get closer to home. The Swede then left New York City FC after playing 135 games with the Pigeons jersey.
In his experience in New York Tinnerholm scored 9 goals. Immediately upon his arrival, the Swede left his mark: 4 goals in the first season, the one where he was most used as minutes.
Tinnerholm's first ever goal with the New York City FC jersey dates back to 11 March 2018 when New York won against LAFC with Tinnerholm who took the Blues ahead, then victorious thanks to David Villa's goal.
On April 1, Tinnerholm repeats by scoring the goal that allows NYCFC to start the comeback against San Jose. On June 3, Tinnerholm took part in the 3-0 win against Orlando City and a month later he scored for the Chicago Fire.
On 5 and 8 August Tinnerholm scored first for the Whitecaps and then for Toronto FC. Tinnerholm's last goal of that season was against Columbus Crew on 2 September.
Also in 2018 Tinnerholm is also the protagonist of several assists: at the end of the season there will be 6.
The following season Tinnerholm plays many games but his goals are far fewer. In fact, the Swede scores only one goal on July 27, 2019 against Kansas City. On the other hand, the number of assists has increased compared to the previous season, Tinnerholm collects 7.
In 2020 Tinnerholm scores his last goals for New York City FC. There are 4 in total: against Chicago Fire on August 30, FC Cincinnati on September 13 and 27 and finally on October 4 at Inter Miami, the last of his career with NYCFC.
Also in 2020 Tinnerholm confirms himself as an assist man: in the end there will be 6.
In subsequent seasons Tinnerholm is no longer able to score, but in 2021 he makes three assists. Season that ends early for the Swede: on October 17 Tinnerhol rome the Achilles tendon during the Hudson River Derby. A serious injury that does not allow him to experience success in the MLS Cup with his teammates and that also makes him miss the first part of the 2022 season.
Tinnerholm still managed to return to the field on June 27, 2022 against Philadelphia Union. In total there will be 12 appearances in a season marked by so many injuries that did not even allow him to celebrate the victory of the Campeones Cup with his teammates.
Now the paths of Tinnerholm and NYCFC are separated, but the Swede will remain forever in the hearts of the fans and in the history of the club.
