The New York Knicks finally have silverware in their hands again.
On Tuesday night in Las Vegas, they capped off a memorable run by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 124–113 to claim the NBA Cup, securing the franchise’s first trophy of any kind since its 1973 NBA Championship.
While the spotlight inevitably shone on the team effort and the dramatic fourth-quarter surge, one name stood out as the early engine of the victory: OG Anunoby. When New York needed stability and shot-making in the opening stages, Anunoby delivered both.
From the opening tip, Anunoby set the tone with aggressive scoring and confident perimeter shooting. He poured in 20 points in the first half alone, repeatedly answering San Antonio’s early momentum and keeping the Knicks within striking distance. His ability to stretch the floor proved critical, as he knocked down five of his ten attempts from three-point range on the night.
Beyond the scoring, Anunoby impacted the game in quieter but equally important ways. He finished with nine rebounds, battled defensively across multiple positions, and logged heavy minutes without losing effectiveness. His +7 plus-minus reflected his steady influence during a contest that swung back and forth for three quarters.
As the game tightened entering the fourth quarter, Anunoby continued to make timely contributions. Two clutch three-pointers early in the final period helped spark New York’s decisive run, as the Knicks flipped the script with a dominant 35–19 fourth-quarter advantage. What had been a tense, evenly matched battle suddenly tilted firmly in New York’s favor.
The Spurs struggled to respond to the Knicks’ defensive intensity and shot-making surge, and Anunoby’s two-way presence was central to that shift. His ability to defend without fouling while still spacing the floor offensively allowed New York to play with pace, confidence, and control.
In a night that will be remembered for ending a 50-year wait for hardware, Anunoby’s performance symbolized what this Knicks team has become: resilient, unselfish, and capable of rising when it matters most. He may not always command headlines, but in Las Vegas, his impact was unmistakable.
For a franchise long starved of tangible success, this NBA Cup triumph is more than a midseason accolade. It’s a marker of progress — and OG Anunoby’s spark was one of the defining reasons the Knicks finally brought a trophy back to New York.
