New York City FC may have found an important spark in one of their most talented attacking players. Talles Magno, the highly regarded Designated Player, delivered a memorable moment against the Colorado Rapids, scoring his first goal of the 2026 MLS season and reminding supporters why he once became a fan favorite.
The Brazilian forward entered the match as a substitute but made a decisive impact, providing a glimpse of the form that once made him one of the club’s most exciting prospects.
A Difficult Road Back to New York
Magno’s journey back to NYCFC has not been straightforward. After spending time on loan at Brazilian side Corinthians, where he struggled to make a significant impact, the 23-year-old returned to New York hoping to restart his career.
However, the start of the 2026 campaign proved frustrating. A preseason injury delayed his reintegration into the squad and limited his opportunities on the field.
Through the first three matches of the season, Magno had accumulated just 31 minutes of playing time, leaving many wondering when he would regain his rhythm.
Limited Opportunities Early in the Season
Recovering from injury while trying to earn back the trust of the coaching staff is never easy. For Magno, the early part of the season was more about patience than production.
The coaching staff carefully managed his workload, giving him only short appearances as he continued to regain match fitness.
But the match against Colorado finally gave the forward the opportunity he had been waiting for.
The Breakthrough Against Colorado
Magno entered the match in the 63rd minute, and it didn’t take long for him to make his presence felt. With NYCFC looking to seal the game, the Brazilian forward provided exactly the kind of attacking threat the team needed.
Timing his run perfectly, Magno sprinted behind the Colorado defense to meet a well-weighted pass. With composure and confidence, he finished with his left foot past goalkeeper Nico Hansen.
The goal marked his first for NYCFC since July 17, 2024, ending a long drought and offering a significant boost to both the player and the team.
Maxi Moralez Pulls the Strings Again
The assist came from veteran playmaker Maxi Moralez, who continues to prove his value to NYCFC’s attacking system.
Spotting Magno’s run behind the defensive line, Moralez delivered a precise pass that split the Rapids’ defense. The Argentine midfielder’s vision and creativity made the opportunity possible.
The assist was Moralez’s third of the 2026 season and his fifth career assist against Colorado, further highlighting his consistent influence in big moments.
A Sign of Things to Come?
Magno’s performance against Colorado may prove to be an important turning point in his season. Not only did he score, but he also played his highest number of minutes so far this year, suggesting that his physical condition is improving.
For NYCFC supporters, the goal brought back memories of the dynamic attacker who first captured their attention when he joined the club in 2021.
If Magno can maintain this level of confidence and fitness, he could become a key contributor once again in the team’s attacking rotation.
With the MLS season still in its early stages, NYCFC might just be witnessing the beginning of a long-awaited resurgence for one of their most talented players.
