NYCFC’s 1-1 draw against Toronto FC Wednesday night extended the club’s record to 0-5-3 since the middle of the 2017 season in games Maxi Moralez didn’t play.

Moralez was suspended due to yellow card accumulation Wednesday night. On Saturday he was sidelined with a hamstring injury.

It’s not quite in the Diego Chara range — which reached 22 games in which the Portland Timbers defensive midfielder didn’t start and was snapped with the Timbers’ 1-0 win over NYCFC at Yankee Stadium. But it was still a significant feat that NYCFC found a way to win without their MLS MVP-caliber playmaker.

“It is very important for us, for our confidence, for our future because everybody knows how important Maxi is for us,” Torrent said. “But everybody is important for us. I prefer to play with him of course. But that means the team is going up, is getting better every single day and the confidence is much better.”

Added Ring: “The stats speak for [itself] what Maxi means to us, especially creatively because we don’t have a player who’s very much like him, who can come and get the ball deep and pick out the right passes and still take on the opponent. We have different types of players, of course we miss him, but I think the team did a fantastic job in the last two games trying to pick up for him.”
