It's a sad day for NYC FC and for the whole MLS. David Villa announced today that he will leave New York at the end of his contract on December 31st. An announcement that we expected, but that leaves the many fans of the Blues who believed in his stay with the City embittered.

Instead, the Spaniard decided to greet everyone after four seasons in New York. He will not stop playing, but he has not yet decided where he will finally end his career as a player. David Villa departs after scoring 80 goals in 124 MLS appearances for NYCFC.

A story of Villa with NYC FC immediately started to sound of goals. In his first game at Yankee Stadium, Villa immediately scored one of his goals with the City. The first season made 18 goals. In the second season in New York, the goals scored were 23. Better still the following year with 24 goals scored. Finally, the season just ended saw Villa score 15 goals despite the many games jumped due to injury.

Numbers of a champion who has left his mark in NYCFC. First captain in the history of the City and one of the players who immediately hit the hearts of New York supporters. Now the final goodbye, but David Villa will always be part of New York City FC.
