New York City get coaching tips from Sesame Street's Grover: 'Kick the ball with your feet!'
New York City FC welcomed a very special guest down to Yankee Stadium for their MLS game against DC United on Sunday -- Sesame Street favourite Grover.
Not long after the children's TV staple marked its 50th anniversary, he was in attendance to watch the big game.
Grover's big afternoon kicked off with a classic selfie under which the little blue guy revealed he was looking forward to a goal-laden thriller.
Grover then kept his followers updated via a series of Instagram stories, all delivered with his trademark zeal.
As the afternoon wore on, Grover began to grow into his role as New York's new (strictly unofficial) assistant coach.
We can only assume fundamentals such as "kick the ball with your feet" and "use the parts of your body at the very bottom" are soon to be incorporated into FIFA's official coaching handbooks.
Alas, Grover's plea for goals wasn't answered as NYCFC and DC United hammered out a 0-0 draw. but the lack of goalmouth action was compensated for by the gift of personalised shirt from a couple of Grover's new pals, Sebastien Ibeagha and Brad Stuver.
The jersey is, unfortunately a few sizes too large for Grover. Perhaps it would make a nice 50th birthday gift for Big Bird?
