Sean Johnson and Bill Hamid were both solid in their respective goals as New York City FC and D.C. United played to a scoreless draw at Yankee Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Both teams forced the opposing goalkeeper into a big save in a scoreless first half with Johnson lunging to his right to get his right hand on Luciano Acosta’s attempt in the 11th minute and Hamid going to ground on a long-distance attempt by Alex Ring in the 37th minute.

Hamid did well to knock down an Alexandru Mitrita free kick from 24 yards out in the 78th minute and saved his best stop for the final moments when he ranged backward to get a piece of a Ring diving header.

That came after Johnson kicked away another Acosta attempt in the 83rd minute as the Eastern Conference foes shared the points on a chilly, wet Etihad pitch.

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: Neither team will likely be too upset with a draw, the second consecutive to start the season for NYCFC. The Cityzens pressed for goals, especially after halftime, but the ‘keepers were certainly the story.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: in the dying moments, it was this stunning save by Hamid, who ranged back toward the goaline to get a piece of Ring’s diving header.

MAN OF THE MATCH: This has to be shared between Johnson and Hamid who appeared to try and one-up each other on every save.
