New York City FC had a dire start to the season. They did not win any of their first six matches and struggled to create chances with an absent centre-forward to play off. But then Heber arrived, and suddenly, the team — and the attack specifically — transformed.

Obviously, there are the goals, and his here was terrific, brilliantly flicking a pull-back with his heel into the goal from close range, but more than that, his overall hold-up play, the space he creates with his movement, and his interplay with Valentin Castellanos has been integral to NYCFC’s resurgence this season.

It is not surprising that Maxi Moralez is the assist leader in MLS and one of the most creative players in the league. He has a brilliant centre-forward to exploit, with whom he shares a wonderful connection.

Heber transformed the New York City FC attack. And it might just bring them right to the top of the East.
