NYCFC stadium announcement could come this year, says Yankees president

Could some long-awaited news on a new home for New York City FC finally be drawing closer?

That was the suggestion made by New York Yankees president Randy Levine in an appearance on Bloomberg TV on Monday.

The iconic Major League Baseball team owns a minority ownership stake in NYCFC as well as Yankee Stadium, the Cityzens' current home, and Levine brought up the MLS team's hunt for a soccer-specific home when asked about the Yankees' trip to England this summer to play two games against the Boston Red Sox at London Stadium. 

"We partnered with City Football Group, which owns Manchester City Football Club and many others. We own New York City Football Club together," said Levin. "It’s a great partnership, they’re fabulous people. We are building New York City Football Club, this is our fifth year. We are in active negotiations to get a new stadium here in New York. We hope to have an announcement this year. So it's been great. As we’re going over to London, they have been fabulous offering all their resources to us."

Levine's words follow a brief mention of the stadium pursuit by NYCFC's director of football operations Claudio Reyna earlier this month in remarks reported by SBIsoccer.com, where Reyna said "we feel good and we feel close" in regards to the search for a permanent home.
